Mini sound off... What I am here to do.
It's been 9 years since I graduated High School and almost 5 years since I finished college. All very rewarding, but insufficient in what I needed, nourishment. Besides the crappy food and low vibrational day job to make ends meet, I wasn't being supported by my community. I'm sure some people can agree that school does not necessarily teach the importance of Knowing One's Self or promoting Self Development. Most of the time, school focuses on college entry, test taking, and indoctrination- the most apparent fundamental basics of being a "good citizen". They also managed to utilize the same pivotal time in Human development to enroll us in the "rat race" of capitalism, instead of allowing the Soul to evolve and grow.
I know a lot of people are turned off by conspiracy theories, but look around, everything that was once safe and good because the FDA said so, is now toxic and cancerous.
I see people declaring the decolonization of land, education, medicine, childbirth etc. Ultimately, people are striving for the freedom to choose. I believe in emancipation of Human Spirit. We are meant to be free! Our energies were never meant to be harvested and cultivated into being an extension of someone else's reverie. Our energy is for our own spiritual development and growth upon this earth.
Beside the people I attended college with or who have worked with me, most people do not know that I am very passionate about my community and concerned about the well-being of our young people. For those who are not aware, I've been opening different avenues for myself to be instrumental in my community. I also cultivated a series of workshops to support people of the community on self-care and personal healing. I created the workshops to build community through commonalities rather than difference, such as single parenthood, parental loss (Multi-level conversation), self-care, relationships etc. My goal is to support my community in the healing that needs to take place for us to provide a healthier environment for our youth. To some it’s a lost cause, but for me is lifetime goal!
Another avenue I decided to go down is the Birth Work arena. After researching the importance of having support during childbirth, I decided to jump right in and learn how to be of support for Laboring Women. The things I learned during my course both empowered and saddened me of what WOC must to go through when having a child.
For my fertile sisters out there who would like a Doula, I'd be happy to provide a FREE consultation with you to see if we make a good fit. The goal is to decrease the maternity mortality rate among WOC in the US.
***Fun Fact: WOC are 12x more likely than their white counterpart, to die due to a childbirth related complications in NYC alone. Maternal death rate in general is at its highest in 25 years. Let that marinate for a little bit!
I have a couple other projects that I am working on to be more instrumental in the community but for right now, this is what I got going on. My community is everything and you are a part of that.
